FOUNDATION AND TRANSFORMATION OF OUR VENUE

Dating back to 1839, Colonel W. Wynn, for whom the Wynnton area of Columbus is named, built a home for himself on 100 acres of land referred to as Wynn’s Hill. Originally named “Oakview,” ownership changed several times and is now known as the magnificent Wynn House: an event venue and shared kitchen. 

Today, our space has become one of the most sought-after backdrops for weddings, tea parties, showers, and luncheons. Let’s look at the successful features our event venue has to offer. EXPLORING THE DESIGN AND DETAILS OF OUR VENUE

The Wynn House, an enchanting event venue in Columbus, Georgia, stands as a historic representation of beauty and grace. Its intricate architecture yields inspirational opportunities to bring any vision to life. As guests enter the newly renovated garden, they are met with beautiful brick pathways, iron gates, and a sprawling green garden. A fountain feature highlights one side of the outdoor backdrop with the Wynn House standing prominently on the opposite side. The interior welcomes you with tall ceilings and other grand features that tell onlookers the stories of every space. Each room is filled with elegant decor and vintage furniture, pairing perfectly with any decoration our guests choose to bring.

The Front of the House consists of two parlors, which the Board of Directors has so lovingly named the Piano Room and the Gold Room. Make sure you find a staff member who can tell you about the exquisite chandelier hanging in the Piano Room! Also they locate for you the original front door that leads back towards our Bridge Room. The Bridge Room is named after Mary Dana Knight, a beloved and admired previous Executive Director. It is a cozy, beautifully lit room that has earned its name due to the many hours of bridge played within its four walls. The Dining Room boasts original Zuber wallpaper with hand-painted designs that continue to be the conversation starter for many luncheons, celebrations, and wedding ceremonies. Traveling up the stairs you will find the thoughtful decorative details of our Bridal Suite. When a bride rents the Wynn House Bridal Suite, she can enjoy watching her wedding come together in the Garden amidst the Victorian vintage furniture giving her the full Wynn House experience.

Our location is perfect for any creative event from business meetings to large weddings. Our spaces are filled with intricate details to enchant our guests, and by working together we can bring your dreams to life. An amazing addition that comes along with the Wynn House, is a beautiful green space that allows for endless creativity. Our director, Brooke Neville, likes to say, “The garden space is your playground. Make it whatever you want it to be!” We have accommodated countless events in the garden, but we love to meet a bride with a vision for her wedding. For ceremonies and presentations, they have many options to choose from for their aisle. Will they enter subtly from the home or dramatically from one of the many iron gates? Their layout can range from any angle of the outdoor space.

“Think of the Wynn House as your own home for the duration of your event, but we do all the things you don’t want to do! Cleaning, cooking, setting up, serving, and cleaning up again! You will be here to enjoy all the important things. We do the rest,” Brooke often reminds our guests. Details are essential and it’s what we do best. At the time of booking, you will have a broad understanding of our pricing and what’s included. No surprises. Our wedding packages include the main level rental, garden rental, all tables, linens, chairs, napkins, white china, silverware, cake service, beverage table, and one hour of rehearsal time in the garden. By bringing in flower arrangements, props, decorations, and other items, your celebration can become your dream event here at the Wynn House. We can also recommend several vendors for florals, tent rentals, lighting rentals, photography, and videography so that you can avoid endless research and stress.

RECALLING REMARKABLE MOMENTS HELD AT OUR VENUE

For over 12 years, we have partnered with Girls, Inc. of Columbus. Girls, Inc. exists to equip girls to reach their full potential while advocating with and for them to end inequality and discrimination. They are the longest-running girls’ leadership program, evolving with girls to meet the challenges and opportunities of the day. We are honored to be a small part of their school year planning monthly events focused on teaching the girls things like letter writing, gift wrapping, etiquette, table settings, and other fun activities keeping them excited and engaged.

Every day at the Wynn House is a memorable moment. However, there are a few recent events that have captured our hearts and is forever etched in our minds. The weekend before a sweet couple was planning to celebrate their wedding, their event venue tragically caught fire. Our staff jumped on their feet and said, “We will take care of you.” Just 5 days before the wedding, we worked nonstop to recreate the vision this couple had in one space and make their wedding dreams come true in ours. The wedding was a jaw dropping success and the happy couple was overjoyed alongside their family and friends.

One of our biggest fundraising events every May is our annual Heritage Ball, the presentation of the Columbus Cotillion Club Debutantes. An estimated 600 guests arrive annually, making this one of the most well-known and highly attended events in the community. With the help of the Wynn House Heritage Ball Committee, the staff sets the stage for an elegant evening. Donations to this fundraiser for the Wynn House help to maintain and restore our beloved historical structure for many years to come.
